AXA And AWS Address Risk Management And Prevention

SEATTLE – Insurance and asset management company AXA, along with Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), are building the AXA Digital Commercial Platform (DCP) to help organizations assess risk, limit exposure, and mitigate loss. According to an Amazon press release , AXA DCP is a secure risk management platform that combines industry, business, and environmental data with geospatial analytics and gen AI technologies helping clients globally to monitor their assets and navigate complex and interconnected risks, including natural disasters, supply chain disruption and cyber threats.

LAS VEGAS – About a week after the Prosper Show last month, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan bill to force ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, to sell the company. The bill would give ByteDance about six months to sell or face a ban. Members of the House cited national security concerns.

One Less Tax Headache: At Least For Now

WASHINGTON — Following feedback from taxpayers, tax professionals, and payment processors (and to reduce taxpayer confusion) the Internal Revenue Service released Notice 2023-74 late last year.  In the notice, the IRS decided to delay the new $600 Form 1099-K reporting threshold for third party settlement organizations for calendar year 2023.

eBay Reaches Agreement With Department Of Justice

SAN JOSE, CA – eBay has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to resolve the DOJ’s inquiry regarding products sold on the eBay marketplace alleged to violate certain laws administered by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Under the terms of the agreement, eBay will pay $59 million and implement enhanced processes regarding its monitoring and reporting of listings that violate eBay’s terms of service. eBay expressly denies the DOJ’s allegations and the settlement does not include any admission of wrongdoing.

Amazon Touts “Record Breaking” Holiday Shopping Season – 4Q Results

SEATTLE – Fourth quarter results (the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2023) are in for Amazon.com with the Seattle-based juggernaut reporting a net sales increase of 14% to $170 billion, compared with $149.2 billion in fourth quarter 2022. Excluding the $1.3 billion favorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter, net sales increased 13% compared with fourth quarter 2022. North America segment sales increased 13% year-over-year to $105.5 billion. 

Walmart’s Augmented Reality Addresses “Virtual Try-Ons” For Eyewear

BENTONVILLE, ARWalmart recently increased its investments in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies to better assist customers in envisioning how fashion, beauty, and home items would look virtually. Walmart will apply the technology to enhance the way customers shop for eyewear with a new Optical Virtual Try-On. Beginning February 2024, customers will be able to virtually “try on” frames and purchase prescription eyewear online through the Walmart app or directly on Walmart.com.

LONDON – Community-powered fashion marketplace Depop has completed the rollout of its Send Offer feature, extending its suite of Offer tools enabling buyers and sellers to negotiate deals on secondhand fashion. According to a Depop press release, Send Offer enables sellers to easily send targeted discount offers to interested buyers and convert likes into sales – giving buyers the opportunity to receive special prices for items they’re interested in. 

 

Amazon Announces Buy With Prime Integration With Salesforce

SEATTLE – Earlier this month, Amazon announced the Buy with Prime for Salesforce Commerce Cloud integration. This solution helps Salesforce merchants integrate Buy with Prime into their existing shopping experience. Buy with Prime for Salesforce also offers merchants several new features, including the ability for shoppers to search and filter for Prime eligible items, and purchase Prime eligible and other items in the same order.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Third quarter results for Etsy, Inc. showed consolidated revenue of $636.3 million, up 7.0% versus the third quarter of 2022, with a take rate (i.e., consolidated revenue divided by consolidated GMS) of 20.9%. According to an Etsy press release, solid revenue growth was primarily driven by growth in Etsy Ads, payments revenue, and transaction fee revenue from Offsite Ads.

Amazon Antitrust – Last Word (At Least For A While)

LAS VEGAS – The Aug. 7 article in the New York Times revealed an open secret; namely that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is pondering an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon. This latest article will be the last word on the topic, at least until the FTC files its lawsuit. 

 

Amazon Touts Hercules Robot And Its Next Gen Progeny

SEATTLE – Officials at Amazon recently touted their first mobile robots in a 9/7/23 posting on About Amazon. The small robots appeared in 2012 to help fulfill customer orders. According to Amazon PR, “these small-but-mighty robots were the predecessors to our current robot drive called Hercules.”

 

TikTok Banning Amazon Links? 

LAS VEGAS – As reported on Techcrunch and elsewhere, TikTok may be planning to ban outside e-commerce links—including Amazon. The initial report came from a site called The Information, but as of this writing no such ban has occurred. A Helium 10 (Prosper Exhibitor) YouTube host stated: “If this happens, obviously this would be huge for anybody who gets outside traffic sales from TikTok.”
