Navigating Amazon Fees: Why Seller Fulfilled Prime May Be Best

DALLAS – Attention all Amazon sellers, ongoing fee changes are set to impact profitability and add significant logistic complexity. In his recent shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy emphasized Amazon’s focus on reducing operating costs, specifically logistics. While Amazon did announce lowered fulfillment fees, by an average of $0.20 for standard-size products and $0.61 for large bulky items, there has also been an introduction of new fees related to fuel inflation, size tiers, inbound placement, and low inventory fees.

 

Biden Signs “Sell-Or-Ban” TikTok Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After the Senate approved a measure this week to force TikTok owners to sell the company or face a ban in the United States, President Biden made good on his promise and signed it into law. The TikTok-related legislation was part of a $95 billion foreign aid package. “The legislation will give TikTok’s Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance, up to a year to sell the app,” wrote Jesse Guynn, a reporter for USA Today.

The bill would give ByteDance about six months to sell or face a ban. Members of the House cited national security concerns.

One Less Tax Headache: At Least For Now

eBay Reaches Agreement With Department Of Justice

SAN JOSE, CA – eBay has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to resolve the DOJ’s inquiry regarding products sold on the eBay marketplace alleged to violate certain laws administered by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Under the terms of the agreement, eBay will pay $59 million and implement enhanced processes regarding its monitoring and reporting of listings that violate eBay’s terms of service. eBay expressly denies the DOJ’s allegations and the settlement does not include any admission of wrongdoing.

Amazon Touts “Record Breaking” Holiday Shopping Season – 4Q Results

SEATTLE – Fourth quarter results (the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2023) are in for Amazon.com with the Seattle-based juggernaut reporting a net sales increase of 14% to $170 billion, compared with $149.2 billion in fourth quarter 2022. Excluding the $1.3 billion favorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter, net sales increased 13% compared with fourth quarter 2022. North America segment sales increased 13% year-over-year to $105.5 billion. 

Walmart’s Augmented Reality Addresses “Virtual Try-Ons” For Eyewear

BENTONVILLE, ARWalmart recently increased its investments in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies to better assist customers in envisioning how fashion, beauty, and home items would look virtually. Walmart will apply the technology to enhance the way customers shop for eyewear with a new Optical Virtual Try-On. Amazon Announces Buy With Prime Integration With Salesforce

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Third quarter results for Etsy, Inc. showed consolidated revenue of $636.3 million, up 7.0% versus the third quarter of 2022, with a take rate (i.e., consolidated revenue divided by consolidated GMS) of 20.9%. Mid October Prime Big Deal Days Prove Profitable

SEATTLE – A post prime press release from Amazon declared that Prime members saved more than $1 billion across millions of deals during Prime Big Deal Days on October 10 and 11. The fastest delivery in the U.S. on the first day of the event was 54 minutes in Ohio, ordered at 7:20 a.m. EDT and delivered by 8:14 a.m. EDT. The customer ordered a pasta attachment for a KitchenAid stand mixer and a book about canning. 

 

Target Seeks To Boost Online Toy Sales

MINNEAPOLIS – A new press release from Target boasts that the retail giant is “bringing more fun and holiday magic to toy shopping with its first immersive, all-toy digital experience. For many guests, the shopping experience starts at home, regardless of where it is completed.” With this in mind, Target has created a 360° shoppable experience to make toy discovery easier. According to Target, the experience allows guests to explore a virtual room.

SEATTLE – Prime Day morphed into Prime Big Deal Days as Amazon officials revealed the Oct. 10-11 time window for the “best early holiday deals”—specifically from Oct. 10 at 3:00 a.m. EDT through October 11. “New deals will drop as often as every five minutes during select periods throughout the event across a wide selection of products with fast and convenient delivery options,” write Amazon officials.

Amazon Touts Hercules Robot And Its Next Gen Progeny

SEATTLE – Officials at Amazon recently touted their first mobile robots in a 9/7/23 posting on About Amazon. The small robots appeared in 2012 to help fulfill customer orders. According to Amazon PR, “these small-but-mighty robots were the predecessors to our current robot drive called Hercules.”

 

TikTok Banning Amazon Links? 

LAS VEGAS – As reported on Techcrunch and elsewhere, TikTok may be planning to ban outside e-commerce links—including Amazon. The initial report came from a site called The Information, but as of this writing no such ban has occurred. A Helium 10 (Prosper Exhibitor) YouTube host stated: “If this happens, obviously this would be huge for anybody who gets outside traffic sales from TikTok.”
