Between November and December of 2017, online sales generated over $108 billion, according to Adobe Digital Insights. That’s an increase of 14.7 percent over the previous year. While those figures are impressive, there’s every reason to believe that the 2018 holiday shopping season will be at least as successful for the online retail market.
While there’s no way to know exactly which items will sell best during the 2018 end-of-year holidays, we can make some educated predictions. Trends indicate that this merchandise will fly off of warehouse shelves this holiday shopping season:
Décor. Christmas trees, ornaments, wreaths, candles and centerpieces always sell well during the holidays, but the décor demands don’t stop on December 25. New Year’s party décor items (balloons, banners, photo booth props, blowouts, confetti, etc.) are also in high demand.
Tech. People want the latest and greatest gadgets and the holidays provide a great excuse to splurge. The newest Apple Watch and iPad will be big sellers this season. Smartphone accessories are always a hit, including projectors and phone cases. Speakers and headphones will sell well too.
Gaming gear. Gaming technology is advancing at head-spinning rates. With people having a little extra downtime over the holiday, gaming gear is a popular gift item. People will invest in virtual reality systems, gaming headsets, ergonomically-designed gaming mouses, and gaming chairs.
Beauty products. Age-defying products continue to sell well, as do make-up items branded by celebrities (think Jessica Alba, Madonna and, of course, the Kardashians). Glittery, shimmery make-up items also continue to captivate the market.
Toys. Hatchimals are holding strong and so are toys with a hint of nostalgia for parents who want their kids to love the same characters that they did. Elmo, Pokemon, and Barbie products still have it, and LEGO sets remain one of the best holiday sellers.
Remember to include a few extras to keep your audience loyal to your online store, like including free shipping and gift wrapping. Ensure great customer service for product inquiries and inevitable post-holiday returns.
