TikTok is testing a paid U.S. membership program called TikTok Shop Plus, a move that positions the social commerce platform more directly against Amazon Prime as it looks to turn product discovery into repeat purchasing.
First reported by Business Insider, the program’s perks include free shipping, discounts and coupons for members. Screenshots cited by multiple reports show TikTok experimenting with monthly price points of $5.99, $9.99 and $14.99, suggesting the company is still evaluating what shoppers might be willing to pay.
The initiative reflects a broader shift in TikTok’s e-commerce strategy. Rather than relying only on impulse buys generated by viral videos, TikTok appears to be building the infrastructure for habitual shopping behavior— the same kind of customer loyalty that has long helped define Amazon Prime.
TikTok Tests Paid Perks to Keep Shoppers Buying In-App
In comparison to an Amazon Prime membership, TikTok Shop Plus is far more limited. Amazon’s membership combines fast shipping with a much broader ecosystem of entertainment, exclusive deals and platform-wide convenience. In its current test phase, TikTok’s offering appears focused mainly on shopping incentives such as discounted items, coupons and delivery benefits.
Even so, the strategic logic is clear. TikTok has often served as a discovery engine that ends up benefiting Amazon: users see a product go viral on TikTok, then leave the app and buy it on Amazon. A membership program could help TikTok keep more of those transactions inside its own ecosystem.
A Loyalty Push Aimed at Reducing Amazon Leakage
The membership test also comes after TikTok introduced product subscriptions for select U.S. sellers, another sign that it is trying to encourage repeat purchases instead of one-off sales. Those subscription tools launched in June for categories such as beauty, food, health and pet supplies, letting merchants offer recurring-delivery discounts. In effect, TikTok is layering loyalty features one piece at a time: first seller-level subscriptions, now a platform-level paid membership test.
The stakes are significant because TikTok Shop is already growing quickly. Citing third-party market data, Nova Data reported TikTok Shop generated $4.9 billion in U.S. gross merchandise value in the first quarter of 2026. While far smaller than Amazon’s U.S. e-commerce business, but large enough to make TikTok’s ambitions harder to dismiss.
For now, TikTok Shop Plus is best understood as a test, not a full-fledged Prime rival. There is no indication yet that it matches Amazon’s scale, logistics reach or ecosystem breadth. But the move shows TikTok is no longer content to be just a place where shoppers discover products. It wants to become the place where they complete purchases— and keep coming back.
