Another TikTok Deadline Looms

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Another “sell or ban” deadline looms for the TikTok app in the United States with the second deadline extension set to end on Thursday, June 19. According to the USA Today and other news outlets, the Trump administration is considering a third extension of the bi-partisan law which was unanimously upheld by the Supreme Court and signed by President Joe Biden.

“During an NBC News Interview in May, Trump said he would extend the deadline a third time if a deal isn’t made by the June 19 deadline,” writes Greta Cross at USA Today. “‘I’d like to see it done,’ Trump said during the interview. The president added that he has a ‘little sweet spot’ in his heart for TikTok, which he claims helped him win votes during the 2024 presidential election.”

Concern about the possible ban was not particularly high at Prosper Show 2025, with presenters frequently mentioning TikTok Shop (shown here at the 2024 Prosper Show) as a valid platform. “TikTok is not going away,” said Michelle Barnum Smith of TikTok Shop Sellers at Prosper Show. “People need to lean in and get their money.”

USA Today mentions that Congress would be within its rights to pass a law ordering a firm deadline, while other industry watchers expressed surprise that the law had not been enacted by now. “The deadline for Trump to follow the law passed 135 days ago,” said Stephen Kent, Consumer Choice Center media director, via press release. “It is shocking that a bipartisan-backed law, signed by the former president and upheld by the Supreme Court, is being treated like a mere suggestion by the White House.”
