LAS VEGAS – As the largest online retailer in South Korea, Coupang is looking for U.S. sellers who hope to expand internationally. Coupang Global US, with American headquarters in Seattle, recently signed on to exhibit at Prosper Show 2025 where attendees can ask questions about the numerous opportunities.
Prosper Show sat down with Adam Poole, director of Coupang Global US, to learn more about Coupang’s history, services, and the merits of international expansion.
Prosper Show: Why did you decide to exhibit at Prosper Show?
Poole: We are excited to present a new opportunity to US sellers and brands. With the introduction of US Coupang Global Fulfillment (US CGF), sellers will be able to leverage our end-to-end fulfillment services, retail expertise, and technology to seamlessly integrate their existing product catalog and reach 22.5 million Product Commerce Active Customers who regularly shop on Coupang.
Prosper Show: What are the origins of Coupang?
Poole: Coupang was founded in 2010 by the Korean American entrepreneur Bom Kim. Since then, it has grown into the largest online retailer in Korea, eventually expanding into video streaming (Coupang Play), restaurant delivery (Coupang Eats), and its own digital payment service (Coupang Pay).
Coupang Global US, as the first business unit within the broader Coupang Global umbrella, launched in 2017 with the mission to bring US selection to Korean consumers. Since then, Coupang Global US has expanded rapidly by consistently wowing the customer and reinvesting in technology and integration models.
Prosper Show: What are the biggest misconceptions about what it takes to succeed as an online seller?
Poole: The biggest misconceptions are: 1) a great product inherently sells itself; 2) customer needs are globally universal; and 3) online selling is a passive opportunity—when in fact it is a 24/7 incredibly involved enterprise.
Prosper Show: Why are online sellers hesitant to switch strategies or add platforms?
Poole: It is not human nature to automatically consider expansion when things aren’t working. Online selling provides global access more than any other segment of retail, and in many cases, expansion can offset headwinds in the business. As with anything new, a learning curve can be daunting for a business leading to hesitancy of on-boarding new platforms. Our dedicated support teams will ensure that sellers concerns are answered and set up for success.
Prosper Show: What are customers saying about Coupang?
Poole: Coupang exists to wow customers and get them to say, “How did I ever live without Coupang?”
