SAN JOSE, CA – The eBay 2024 Impact Report showcases progress in creating economic opportunities, promoting sustainable commerce, and fostering an empowered workforce. “Our team remains committed to helping people make meaningful choices about how they shop and do business,” said eBay CEO and President Jamie Iannone. “Together, we are building a better future for our global community.”
Economic Empowerment
The report touts the resilience of small businesses, which accounted for roughly 70% of GMV across the U.S., U.K., and Germany—eBay’s three highest-demand markets—in 2024. In 2024, eBay for Charity enabled raised $192 million for nonprofits in communities around the world.
Meanwhile, eBay Foundation granted nearly $18 million to organizations that break down barriers to entrepreneurship. Since 1998, the Foundation has awarded nearly $140 million in support of economic empowerment and employee-selected causes.
Sustainable Commerce
eBay committed to reducing its footprint and promoting sustainable commerce practices. In 2024, they took steps to reduce our consumption and emissions. “We achieved our goal to source 100% renewable energy across our offices, data centers, and authentication centers. We also set a new goal to achieve net-zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2045 and remain committed to investing in clean energy technologies,” wrote company officials. “We’re proud to be leaders in recommerce. In 2024, the sale of pre-loved and refurbished goods on our platform generated $5 billion in positive economic impact, avoided 1.6 million metric tons of carbon emissions, and prevented 70,000 metric tons of waste. By fostering a circular economy, we’re reducing waste, conserving resources, and cutting emissions and creating opportunities for our buyers and sellers.”
